Where Did You Go?

The other night I thought I heard your footsteps
But it was nothing but the pounding of the rain
I go out and pretend to have a good time
To kill the time, to kill the pain

And when I cry there's no shoulder there to cry on
Only a cold hard wall
And when I run there's no one running with me
To help me get up when I fall

And when I'm cold there are no arms to hold me tight
And I have no one here to keep me safe at night
Where did you, where did you go?
Tell me where did you, where did you go?

The other day I thought I heard you knocking
But there was no one at the door
I should have known, yeah I should have known better
Cause you don't come around here anymore

I sit and read the empty promises you wrote me
About how we'd be together someday
I keep on thinking that if I really tried to
I'd find it in my heart to throw them all away

I should have known it was too good to last
And I'm a fool for hanging on to the past
But tell me where did you, where did you go?
Where did you, where did you go?

Nothing but the pounding rain
to kill the time to kill the pain,
Only a cold hard wall
to help me get up when I fall,
There was no one at the door
cause you don't come around here anymore
We'd be together someday
I keep on thinking there must be a way...

Nothing but the pounding rain
to kill the time, to kill the pain,
Only a cold hard wall
to help me get up when I fall,
No arms to hold me tight
No one here to keep me safe at night
I should have known it was too good to last
And I'm a fool for hanging on to the past.
